KEO bags sustainability award for the Best Residential Building

KEO International Consultants has announced winning the sustainability award in recognition of the sustainability services offered on the Wafra Residential project.  The Wafra Residential project has received the ‘Best Residential Green Building of the Year’ award during the prestigious 2nd annual Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) Sustainability awards held earlier this week.

Wafra Tower, a development by Wafra Real Estate, a leading real estate investment and development player in the State of Kuwait, with UNStudio as Lead Architect, has proved to be the best green residential building. It sets a great example for the sustainable living that Wafra Real Estate aspires to achieve across the GCC.   The most notable achievement of this project is that it conforms to the 5 Stars rating under GSAS, the highest feasible achievable score for the design of a residential tower.

KEO was the Architect of Record and Sustainability Consultant for the project; also providing a multitude of services namely MEP, Structural Engineering, Quantity Surveying and Waste Management.  A multi-disciplinary approach was adopted, as the client and all key stakeholders worked in synergy to produce an award-winning project.

Qatar Sustainability Awards aim to recognize the efforts, commitment, and contributions of individuals, institutions and organizations in furthering sustainable development and environmental protection in Qatar and beyond.

Holley Chant, Executive Director of Corporate Sustainability said: “We are very proud of this great recognition.   Under the leadership of Dr. Ioannis Spanos, KEO’s Sustainability Principal, the team has worked very hard to ensure an integrated approach to the management of the project and its sustainability aspect.  All the factors associated with sustainability were carefully considered as part of an integrative design process requested by Wafra Real Estate. All disciplines worked collaboratively together as well as ensured seamless coordination with the client.  This recognition wouldn’t have been achieved without the dedicated efforts of the entire KEO team and the several disciplines involved together with the UNStudio project team who all stayed focused on the vision to create an intelligent, healthy, flexible and sustainable environment that responds to the changing demands of today's residents in Qatar and we are proud to see the project’s vision realized.”
