The development plan for this international school includes prenursery, nursery, kindergarten and primary level operations. Provisions have also been made for the secondary level. The educational program and the design brief were developed by the Dutch Innovation Center for Schoolbuilding (ICS) on behalf of Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), which operates the school. Phase 1 of the school follows the international Primary Curriculum (IPC).

Apart from the classrooms, activity areas and specialist facilities, the school has extensive sports resources, including a basketball court, a shaded swimming pool, and a football pitch. The PDO International School is the first IPC school in Oman and the first purpose built IPC school in the world. The project achieved LEED Certification from the US Green Building Council, creating the first school in Oman to be LEED certified.
