The Arab Open University (AOU) is an extraordinary experiment in education involving the creation of an open system of e-learning. The objective is to provide higher education opportunities to local and regional communities, as well as to the wider Arab world, by using modern, technically advanced methods of teaching. From its headquarters in Kuwait, the AOU has developed seven international branches which have been operating since early 2003. The main campus locations are in Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon and Oman with further expansion planned for more than twenty countries in the Middle East and Africa.
KEO is responsible for the project and construction management of the AOU branch in Saudi Arabia. Situated in Riyadh, the new campus has a built up area of 16,740 square meters on a 38,000 square meters site and can accommodate an enrolment of 7,000 students, supported by 200 members of staff. The building was completed in September 2013 and demonstrates a modern and impressive design, intended to be both aesthetically pleasing and a landmark of international value.
