This project was to provide enhancements to the interior of the existing Al Wakra Hospital, thereby improving working conditions, efficiency and space utilization. The overall intention was to ensure standards of excellence in the delivery of patient care and in the professional environment for staff. The enhancements were made to the main entrance and admission area of the ground floor and to the in-patient rooms on floors two to six. In addition, changes were made to the cafeteria, to the general landscaping and to the water feature. The operations required to achieve all this necessitated the demolishing and refurbishment of walls, floors, ceilings and doors, MEP works and the refitting of in patient rooms on five floors.
There were considerations beyond the normal demands of refurbishment projects, caused by the need to conduct the works while the hospital was continuing to function on floors one and two throughout the period of our activity. A prime concern was to protect the integrity of adjoining occupied areas and isolate them from noise, dust and disturbance. In order to achieve this, the work was divided into four zones, A, B, C and D and was closely coordinated with the client’s own Engineering Department.
