The Oman Environmental Services Holding Company (OESHCO) was established by the Omani Government through a Royal Decree to streamline and privatize the waste management and environmental protection activities across the Sultanate. OESHCO works closely with the Municipalities and other key organisations, and has gradually taken over the responsibilities from individual Municipalities and is privatizing the waste management sector.

KEO was appointed to undertake a site identification assessment in the Al Sharqiyah region of Oman, for the placement of 4 engineered non-hazardous waste landfills and 18 waste transfer stations. The project awarded to KEO was one of the first released by OESHCO, and involved various site related investigations, GIS mapping of information, site selection criteria development, and implementation and feasibility reporting.
