Doha has three major wastewater treatment plants located to the north, west and south of the greater Doha city area. The new Doha North WWTW was constructed under KEO management, and completed in 2013. The new plant has a peak flow capacity of some 40,000m3/day and will service areas to the north of Doha, which have seen substantial population growth over the past few years.

Doha South WWTW has also witnessed a significant increase in inflow as a result of the substantial economic growth of the area. In 2009, a sequencing batch reactor plant (SBR) was completed and provided an additional 70,000m3 of treatment capacity to the existing plant (Phase 1 development). Due to the further unforeseen growth in population, it was necessary to increase this by implementing Phase 11 of the development.
