KEO prepared a study for design improvements to the Jahra Wastewater Treatment Plant in Kuwait. The new design increased the capacity of the plant from 60,000 to 140,000 cubic meters per day.
New designs were produced for replacement equipment for the mechanical bar screens, grit separators and the clarifier. The existing mechanical surface aeration system was updated with fine bubble diffused aeration. The old gravity sludge thickeners were replaced with new units, and provision made for the UV disinfecting of effluent. An instrumentation and control system using programmable logic controllers (PLC) was put in place to improve the efficiency of the plant operation. The project also included: a new three storey administration and control building, a new guardhouse, a raw wastewater sampling station, a new laboratory building and a workshop.
