KEO was appointed by Musanada to take over one of the winning schemes of the Model Schools Design Competition held by the Abu Dhabi Educational Council (ADEC). KEO’s task was to help ADEC accomplish its vision of a new generation of world-class educational schools. This involved developing and retrofitting the design prototype into three sites located in Al Dhaher -Al Ain, Khalifa City A and Mohammed Bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi. The model school design incorporates a program for cycle 1 (grades 1-5) catering for 1,000 students on all sites, with the addition of a kindergarten for 160 students at the MBZ site. It also complies with standards in ADEC’s design manual and space program, and with IBC 2009 standards. Special attention was given to safety considerations both inside and outside the buildings, including priority drop-off areas for parents, school buses, and the disabled.
