Doha has three major wastewater treatment plants located to the north, west and south of the greater Doha city area. The new plant at Doha South has a peak flow capacity of some 440,000 m3/day and will service areas to the north of Doha, which have seen substantial population growth over the past few years. Doha South WWTW has also witnessed a significant increase in inflow as a result of the substantial economic growth of the area. In 2009, a sequencing batch reactor plant (SBR) was completed and provided an additional 70,000m3 of treatment capacity to the existing plant (Phase 1 development). Due to the further unforeseen growth in population, it is now necessary to increase this by implementing Phase 2 of the development.
