Mohammed Bin Zayed City is located thirty kilometers east of downtown Abu Dhabi City and close to Capital City and Mussafah. The city covers approximately 49.28 square miles and its development is divided into 54 sectors including infrastructure, amenities, public realm and buildings as part of “Plan Abu Dhabi 2030”. MBZ’s development areas are separated into two groups “ME” and “Z”, with the “ME” sectors already largely developed and the “Z” sectors only partially so. The “Z” sectors are allocated mainly to residential housing. The MBZ Commercial Towers project, which includes 349 residential mixed use towers in five sectors, is a major component of this development.
The implementation of the Master Plan commenced in August 2007 with an estimated budget of AED 163.5 billion, including capital and associated operational costs.
